Background of the Study
Tourism investment refers to financial resources directed toward developing and enhancing tourism infrastructure, facilities, and services. Kebbi State, located in the northwestern region of Nigeria, offers numerous tourist attractions, including natural landscapes, cultural heritage sites, and historical monuments. The state has untapped potential in tourism, but investment in tourism infrastructure and services has been minimal. As the Nigerian government increasingly focuses on diversifying the economy, tourism has been identified as a potential growth sector, with local businesses in the hospitality, retail, and service sectors poised to benefit from increased tourism investments.
The tourism sector in Kebbi State is still in its early stages of development, and much of its tourism infrastructure is either outdated or underdeveloped. However, with the right investments, the sector can become a significant contributor to the state’s economy. Investments in areas such as hotels, resorts, transportation, and tour services can create jobs, stimulate local businesses, and contribute to the overall economic growth of the region. This study will examine the impact of tourism investments on local businesses in Kebbi State, focusing on how these investments are shaping the local economy and fostering sustainable development.
